ŌTOROHANGA KIWI HOUSE
Building Certification:
Living Community Challenge
2021 - Present
Ōtorohanga Kiwi House is New Zealand’s first Kiwi House, a historic treasure with fifty years of reputation as an innovative conservation and tourism entity in the Ōtorohanga Township of the Waikato.
TLC have been working with the Kiwi House on a full redevelopment of their park. The project is registered under Living Community Challenge and is posed to become the first Living ‘Zoo’ in the world. Two of the new buildings within Living Community will achieve full Living Building Challenge.
Amongst many other Regenerative Strategies, the redevelopment is being designed using salvaged and red list free materials, to generate and provide for all of its own energy and water on site, to restore ecology on site towards a predevelopment baseline, and to act as a Civil Defense Centre for the community in the case of a disaster or emergency.
