s Sustainability and Living Building Challenge (LBC) consultants to Otago Polytechnic, TLC assisted in the design of Te Pā Tauira, a 230 bed student accommodation building within the Dunedin campus.  This project was designed to follow the philosophy and principles of LBC, and to create a healthy and inspiring place for students to live. 

Future proofing for Zero Energy was integrated into this project with a high thermally performing envelope, solar power generation, passive principles, and mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems to ensure good air quality.  This building was also designed for a low carbon footprint, with a CLT timber structure and low operational energy and water consumption.  A study in 2018 showed that Te Pā Tauira has significantly lower energy use than other student accommodation.
