Otago Polytechnic's Engineering Construction and Living Sciences build was guided by the Living Building Challenge's (LBC) Materials Petal and following the overarching philosophy of LBC. 

In addition, the concept of biophilic design was of interest for this build and the adjacent public realm.  Through a number of exploration workshops held on site at the Huirapa Marae, a holistic biophilia plan was developed and then implemented.  Taking a thoughtful approach, place based relationships were brought into the core of the building's design.

This project also required consultation with multiple stakeholder groups including mana whenua, student body and staff.
