We’re excited to share more details about what Tricia Love will be discussing during the 'Building for the Future' panel at the Wao Summit in Wānaka and Queenstown, from October 29th to November 2nd. This panel will explore innovative models being tested by developers, designers and businesses that are redefining our approach to building communities.
During the panel, Trish will delve into the Living Future Living Building Challenge—a philosophy, advocacy tool, and certification program that represents the pinnacle of sustainable design and construction. This approach challenges us to envision a future where every building contributes positively to our planet.
🔎 What is the Living Building Challenge?
Imagine a world where:
💚 Every building is a beacon of sustainable design, enhancing connections between people, light, air, food, nature and community.
💚 Structures are self-sufficient, thriving within the resource limits of their environment.
💚 Every project—whether a single building, renovation, infrastructure, or park—creates a positive impact on both human and natural systems.
You may be surprised to find out that the aim of Living Building Challenge is not for all buildings to obtain certification or to have thousands of Living Buildings in the world, but rather for the Living Buildings that are built to inspire a transformative shift in building practices—making sustainable and regenerative design the standard. Living Buildings were never envisioned to be extremely numerous but rather to act as beacons of change all over the world.
🌱 Wao Summit:
Trish will be speaking at Luggate Memorial Hall from 11:00am to 12:30pm on Thursday, October 31st, exploring how we can collectively bridge the gap to make this vision of sustainable building 'business as usual' for future generations.
